The Tecma Silence Plus is the largest toilet system from Thetford Marine, as fitted to luxury liners and motorhomes Europe-wide. Described by Thetford as the “big-bowl” version, its 51cm length creates an at-home seating feeling. With many larger motorhomes now adopting a system of large black water holding tanks, macerating toilets are becoming a standard installation, whilst also being a popular upgrade to gravity / dump through toilet systems. The gravity system is common on narrowboats and RVs, where the toilet is located directly above the black tank. Flushing simply opens a trap door at the base of the toilet and gravity does the rest! Issues can occur, as can smells with this type of system. A macerating toilet is a lot more pleasant to both use and maintain!
The Tecma Silence Plus is available in two heights, this is the lower unit and is great to retrofit in place of gravity toilets or for newly designed builds. It is short, which allows you to build a small plinth (approx 10cm) and put the toilet on top of this. The plinth is a great way to hide any additional pipework you may require, or to raise the level of the black tank to maximise capacity.
CamperHappy supplies this toilet with the simple All In One control panel, where the user simply chooses flush or fill. The flush cycle can be adjusted to use more or less water. We happily use ours on the minimum setting. The control panel can also be linked to a tank high level gauge to stop the toilet from being used when the tank is full (fail safe). But we use ours just keeping an eye the normal tank gauge.
To fit the toilet in a motorhome is really simple. Full instructions come with the toilet, but basically you connect a pressured water supply to the toilet via supplied solenoid. Plumb the toilet outlet to your black water tank via 38mm I.D. flexible sanitation hose (we sell this separately) and wire in through a fused 24-volt supply. And that is it! If you are retrofitting it into a tank with a larger inlet, we can even help manufacture an adapter piece.
A 12 volt version is also available.
Manufactured and designed in Italy the fit and finish of these toilets is exceptional; from the soft close lid to the ceramic bowl. They are quality. Spare parts and service kits are available although we would expect them to last a long time with normal usage. As with all mobile toilets you should not put anything down the toilet other than ones, twos or toilet paper. The macerator makes emptying your black tank easy and helps keep it free of solids that can cause blockages, but a macerator cannot cope with wipes/ sanitary products etc.
The performance of the macerator pump meets all quality standards, while the technology inside the toilet has been further developed to keep the sound emission to the lowest level possible. Water and electrical consumption is kept to minimal levels. The installation, plumbing and wiring is easy and fast, with virtually no maintenance.
