This Zadi STS oval compartment lock is common to many mobile vehicles built in the U.K. such as the Swift Autotrail and European marks such as Hymer Mobile. The unique thing, that makes these locks so popular with vehicle converters, is the ease of use for the customer alongside a sleek smooth shape that blends onto the vehicle body.
The Zadi STS lock operates on a 90-degree twist action. It has a compression action that means the door latch turns then pulls the door tight closed (to ensure a snug fit against a door seal.)
To operate put the key into the barrel, turn the key and the external handle pops out towards you making it obvious the door is now unlocked. A 1/4 turn on the handle and the door catch is released. To lock the door latch it is simply a case of twisting the locking catch and pushing the handle back flush into the mounting.
There is a backing plate included with the locking kit which is for optional use depending on the application of your lock. If the lock is being used on a thin metal sheet wall or similar, use the backing plate on the interior side of the wall to hold your screws in place. If the desired use of the lock is on a thick wood type material, the backing plate will not be necessary as the wall material will grasp the screws.
To replace your broken or sticking door lock takes seconds. Anybody can do this. You open your existing latch which reveals 2 external screws. Remove these. Undo the bolt on the rear of the lock holding the catch on and remove the entire unit. To refit the new lock, pass it through the door hole taking care to keep the supplied neoprene gasket in place. Using suitable screws (not supplied) secure the barrel in place, then fit the rear latch washer and finally the bolt and tighten. That’s it you’re done!
The barrel as configured here has a gap of 50mm between the face of the outer latch and the face of the locking catch. These locks are often fitted on doors with a thickness less than 50mm because the manufacturers pack out or bend the internal catch plate to fit the locks reach.
If you know your key number, we can look through our stock to try to match yours and if you buy multiple locks, we automatically key them alike so your door and latches match.
The lock comes complete with a random keyed Zadi barrel and matching pair of keys. It is possible to reuse your old barrel if its serviceable. This has an advantage if your caravan compartments are all keyed alike. so, you do not need to carry additional keys with you. To do this a special Zadi extraction key is needed, or there are instructional videos readily available on YouTube to do this without.
Zadi are the largest established manufacturer of caravan and motorhome door and compartment locks in Europe. From their base in Italy, they supply many of the manufacturers across the U.K. and this is a direct replacement part if you are having problems with your lock.
