These DC50 compressor fridges made exclusively for our U.K. supplier directly in the Far East. Effectively they share the same internal factory components as manufacturers such as Dometic / Waeco but with a much lower price point. (Vitrifrigo are made in Italy but the compressor components are still imported).
One of our bestselling fridges, we have very few problems with these. The U.K. importer holds a stock of spares for them, in any event, and covers them with a 1 year warranty from your purchase date. They are simple to operate and look really stylish withe the silver painted finish. The paint has a bit of fleck to it and looks really nice.
The DC50 fridge utilises compressor technology to cool the freezer compartment. This is the most efficient way to run a fridge from a battery supply. It is entirely possible to run the fridge for a weekend on a single leisure battery charge or permanently with the help of solar panel charging.
The silver fridge is sleek to look at, and simple to use. There is an on/off button which works on a long press to avoid accidentally spoiling your food. There are also 2 button which increase or decrease the cooling power on a scale of 0 to 10.) being the coldest. And that is it! The fridge operates according to the internal thermostat reading. A great feature is that the display will flash up the actual fridge temperature before the digital display turns itself onto power-saving mode.
The door hangs from the right and is not interchangeable. It has a little adjustment via the screws and a strong latch that locks the fridge closed for travel. You simply slide the latch to the left to allow the door to open.
This fridge is easy to install. It measures 540mm high x 390mm wide, so a slightly bigger aperture will allow the fridge to slide into place within a kitchen unit. The depth of your cupboard will need to be 510mm for a flush fit although if it is a little less the door is 40mm thick and can sit proud. It has been intentionally manufactured to match the sizes of the Vitrifrigo 39 air lock and Dometic Waeco CRX or CRE 50 fridges as an alternative installation.
You will need to ventilate the area behind the fridge where the compressor and fan are to allow heat to dissipate. A simple grill sized to make the fan is ideal. Best would be one either side.
Wiring the DC50 in is as simple as supplying the fridge with either a 12-volt or 24-volt supply. We advise a switched supply directly from the battery protected with a 15 amp in-line fuse. The cable should be thick enough to handle the fuse current rating. We suggest 4 – 6mm sq on a run of up to 3 metres to avoid any voltage drop.
The fridge will work great in ambient temperatures between 15 and 35 degrees. Efficiency may be affected outside these temperatures. In very cold ambient temperatures, the freezer compartment may struggle although the fridge will keep cool. This is common to all compressor fridges that rely on the freezer cooling coils to cool the fridge area too. But generally, if you’re using the vehicle at a comfortable temp this will be fine for the DC50.
